Dhal inspired soup

This is one of those soups that takes no time or energy to make, its simple but it fills and it's comforting. As the title suggests it makes me think of dahl just because it's so thick and because of the use of indian spices.

Ingredients:
2 dl red lentils
1 tbsp black onion seeds
1 tsp gram masala
2 tsp el ras hanout (Moroccan spice mix)
1 stock cube which can be either vegetable or chicken
1 tsp cooking oil
5 dl water

Optional could be adding leek or spring onion to add some green and crunch. Carrot could also be a nice addition. I can imagine adding coconut milk could also be delicious.

  1. Fry the spices in the oil on a low heat for 5 minutes.
  2. If you want to add leek or spring onion slice and add to the spices and fry for 3 minutes.
  3. Rinse the lentils, and then add to the spices as well as the stock cube and water.
  4. Allow to cook for 30-40 minutes.
